As the assistant to the butcher, you'd learn the ropes about cutting, slicing, dicing and dressing meat while serving up steaks to customers.Whether it's a custom order or you're prepackaging meat for the masses, you'll need to actually be interested in meat to get started. Knowing what makes a great steak or how to pick the best pork will serve you well as you interact with customers. Because you'll be taking orders from the head butcher, you'll need to have good listening skills. It's also the perfect place to start if you have good people skills and you're comfortable working with meat. Uh, sorry vegetarians.
